The commercial building sector in Melbourne generates 48 per cent of total greenhouse gas emissions from the municipality. This building sector is therefore a primary target for reducing our overall greenhouse gas emissions The aim of the 1200 Buildings Program in retrofitting the commercial buildings in the City of Melbourne is to make them more efficient, increase building resilience and asset value, while benefitting the environment. Retrofitting 1200 (equivalent to roughly two thirds of the total stock) existing commercial buildings will improve energy performance by an average of 38 per cent and save 383,000 tonnes of CO2-e per annum. 131 Queen Street turns the sky greenArticle provided by: Committee for Melbourne In a previous article, the Growing Up project was introduced.
